Breastfeeding 101 (Part 2)
Welcome back to Woman Made Well! Today, we’re continuing our empowering conversation with my dear friend and lactation consultant, Aida Gonzalez, as we dive even deeper into the breastfeeding journey. In Part 2, we’re covering everything from how to build and maintain your milk supply to overcoming common breastfeeding challenges, all with compassion, flexibility, and the reminder that your worth as a mom is never measured in ounces.
Aida shares expert advice on how to set yourself up for long-term breastfeeding success, starting from those very first hours after birth. We’ll talk about why frequent milk removal and responsive feeding are the key drivers of supply and how your baby’s natural feeding cues are designed to communicate exactly what they need. You’ll also hear us break down popular lactogenic foods, hydration tips, and why taking care of your own nutrition is so important in the postpartum period, not just for milk production, but for your own physical and emotional recovery.
We also get real about the challenges many moms face, including mastitis, thrush, and how to spot the early warning signs before they become bigger problems. You’ll learn why gentle massage, ice, and proper follow-up can prevent complications, and how knowing when to ask for help can make all the difference. Most importantly, we open up about the emotional toll breastfeeding can take when things don’t go according to plan — and why giving yourself permission to pivot, whether that means supplementing or weaning entirely, is sometimes the bravest and healthiest choice you can make for both you and your baby.
If you’re in the thick of breastfeeding, preparing to return to work, or navigating the mental load of trying to “do it all,” this episode is here to encourage you. You are not alone, and your journey, no matter how it unfolds, is enough. If this episode encourages you, please share it with another mom who might need to hear these words today. Don’t forget to leave a rating and review to help us grow this community of support. And connect with me on social media! I’d love to hear your story and walk alongside you on this beautiful, messy, and meaningful journey of motherhood.
