Woman Made Well

Breastfeeding 101 (Part 1)

Candice Wood Episode 14

Welcome back to Woman Made Well! Today, we’re diving into one of the most beautiful yet often challenging parts of motherhood — breastfeeding. Whether you’re preparing to nurse your first baby or hoping for a smoother experience the second (or third!) time around, this episode is for you. I’m joined by my dear friend and expert lactation consultant, Aida Gonzalez, who shares both her personal struggles and professional wisdom to help you feel prepared, confident, and supported on your breastfeeding journey.

In our conversation, Aida opens up about how even with years of experience as a labor and delivery nurse, her own breastfeeding journey was far from easy. Together, we unpack why breastfeeding is rarely “natural” from the start, why education and support matter so much, and how connecting with a lactation consultant before delivery can make all the difference. From understanding how to get a good latch to recognizing your baby’s hunger cues, we cover the essential tools every mom needs to know.

We also dive into the emotional side of breastfeeding. The self-doubt, the pressure to get it right, and the guilt so many moms carry when things don’t go as planned. Most importantly, we want you to know that your worth is never measured in ounces of milk. Breastfeeding doesn’t have to be all or nothing, and formula can be a supportive tool when needed. However your journey unfolds, you are doing an incredible job.
